Meet Dave

Dave Tibbitts - Saxophones, Clarinet

Dave Tibbitts was born and raised in Orrville, OH.  He began playing saxophone in the city school music program and then went to Ashland College and completed his Music Education degree. After graduation, he began his 30-year career teaching as the assistant band director at Orrville City Schools.  He received his Master Of Music from Bowling Green State University and while there studied with Dr. John Sampen on alto saxophone.  

Dave is married with two daughters and two grandchildren.   After retiring from public school teaching he and his wife answered a call to be Youth Directors for Trinity United Methodist Church in Orrville for seven years.  They currently are Directors of Children’s Ministry at Trinity and are enjoying their chance to serve.  In addition, Dave continues to teach privately and has a woodwind studio in Orrville and at Mike’s Music Corner in Ashland. 

In addition to performing in Jazz By Design Combo, Dave is a member of the Ashland Salvation Army Kroc Center Big Band.  The KC Big Band, under the leadership of Music Coordinator Neil Ebert, came into existence in March of 2009 and is the premier performing group at the Ashland Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. The Big Band samples many different jazz artists, such as Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Michael Buble', Frank Sinatra, and more. Many of the current and former members of the KC Big Band perform with Jazz by Design.
